It's not easy to keep up with social networking sites, especially when you don't share the same information across them. You might use Twitter for business and post more personal information on Facebook, or you might want to share something on your WordPress blog that you don't necessarily want on LinkedIn. HootSuite is a handy extension for Google Chrome that lets you easily share updates, links, and images on multiple social networking sites, but only when and where you choose.

The extension appears in Chrome as an icon to the right of the address bar. Users can configure HootSuite to work with their Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Ping.fm, WordPress, MySpace, and FourSquare accounts. Then, anytime you want to post something to one or more of these sites, simply click the icon. HootSuite will automatically grab the address of the Web page you're currently on and shorten it to a more update-friendly length. Add your own text if desired, and then select the sites that you want HootSuite to publish to. Click the Send Now button, and your update is on its way to the selected sites. HootSuite even lets users schedule updates to be sent in advance, so you can send your best friend a birthday Tweet a few days in advance and know that it will appear on her birthday. Our only complaint about HootSuite had to do with its interface; it looks nice, but it appears in a rectangle that is too small to display all of the content. This sometimes makes for some awkward scrolling, and at least once we found that we needed to click on a button that we simply couldn't get to. Aside from that, we think that HootSuite is an extremely useful extension, and it's a great choice for users of multiple social networking sites.
