Speed up your PC, and fix PC problems.
Device drivers allow hardware devices and computer programs to interact, so they're obviously an integral part of proper computer function. When drivers go missing or become out of date they can slow down system performance and create other problems. DriverGuide DriverScan is an easy way to scan your computer for outdated drivers. Unfortunately, although the program is free, you're going to have to pay if you want to update your drivers with it.
DriverGuide DriverScan is incredibly easy to use, which is a good thing, because there's no Help file. The program opens with a plain screen with two buttons, allowing users to either scan their computer for outdated drivers or exit the program. Scanning our computer took less than a minute, and the program displayed the results in an easy-to-read list. The list included all of the drivers on our system, and a pop-up window showed how many of our drivers had updates available. Next to each out-of-date driver is a Download button, which you may think would permit you to download the updated driver. And you'd be right--sort of. Clicking on this button takes users to a Web site where they're encouraged to buy a $14.95 DriverGuide membership, which will then allow them to download driver updates. Of course, it is possible to seek out driver updates individually on the Internet, and if you don't mind doing that, this program does a good job of simply letting you know which drivers need to be updated. But if you're looking for a comprehensive program that will both identify and update out-of-date drivers, keep looking, or be prepared to pay.
