The more programs you install on your computer, the more cluttered your desktop. This free program alleviates the clutter by letting you drag and drop desktop icons to an unobtrusive slide bar that hides when not in use. It'll take a little time to customize it to your liking, but it's worth the extra time.

SideSlide appears as a black window that features modules for holding notes, tips, feeds, and icons for frequently-used applications. The window is tucked away, out of view until you click on it, and can be moved around to any location on your desktop. To customize the window, all we had to do was drag and drop desktop icons to the black window. The icons can be customized and moved around within the window. They didn't disappear from our desktop, so we had to delete them ourselves. With the click of our mouse, we were able to refresh all of the feeds and expand all of the modules. Launching applications was simply a matter of double-clicking the icon as usual.
